16 routes, mostly circuits, varying in length from 8 to 29 miles
and including all degrees of severity.

This paths and tracks making up this route can be seen on the following Ordnance Survey maps. The Outdoor Leisure and Explorer series at A number of people and organisations have given their time and expertise to provide details for the book and open up the trails, or contributed in some other material way. The trails were surveyed and described by Ann Aldridge, Elizabeth Craig, Helga Frankland, David and Helen Kerry, Katharine Pottinger, Nigel Redfern and Steve Sweeney. The drawings are the work of Marily Leech and Betty Walker. Alice Bondi, formerly of the East Cumbria Countryside Project, gave valuable editorial advice. The book was compiled and edited by Nigel Redfern, The British Horse Society County Access and Bridleways Officer for Cumbria.
