The Heritage Ride is a 250 mile (400km) long distance trail
passing through Lincolnshire and East and North Yorkshire.
It starts at Boston in the south and runs
northwards to Hull and then Whitby. A spur runs westwards
to Guisborough. The scenery on the trail includes fertile plains,
rolling hills, majestic moorland, massive coastal cliffs and the
intrinsic beauty of limestone and chalk (which incidentally provides
good going for horses and cycles).
Place names along the route indicate the legacy of Anglian, Saxon
and Viking invaders and the
fields and farms show the changing historical patterns of
agriculture along the eastern margin of England. Nowadays this is a
little visted part of Britain with a great deal of excellent riding.
